Children’s Social Care Referral Form
From 1st September 2010 it will be necessary to use this form for requests for assessment or services direct to Central Bedfordshire Children’s Social Care (via Intake and Assessment).
This form DOES NOT replace the CAF form. Any existing CAF relating to the referral should be sent to the Intake & Assessment team along with the referral form, but referrals to Children's Social Care should never be made on a CAF.
All CAF forms should be sent to the CAF and Lead Professional Team
New CAF Form
The national CAF form has now been adopted by Central Bedfordshire and must be used for all CAF’s. Please do not use the old Bedfordshire form.
The new CAF form, consent statement and review form are attached; however, all the documents plus guidance can be accessed via the DofE website at:
http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/everychildmatters/resources-and-practice/TP00004/
The new CAF form is also available on the LSCB website.
The national CAF documents are well designed and easier to use, and are designed to be compatible with National e-CAF should Central Beds adopt this in the future.
CIN procedures
The Child in Need Procedures for Central Bedfordshire are currently being updated and the new procedures incorporating these changes will be issued later in 2010.

CAF - Referrals to Bedford Children's Social Care Team
|
|
|
If you have immediate concerns about the safety of a child or young person please follow the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board procedures.
To discuss concerns with Intake and Assessment contact them on 01234 223599.
Referrals to Intake and Assessment are made using the Common Assessment Framework form. When referring to children social care, practitioners should consider and include any information they have on the child’s/young person’s developmental needs and their parents’/carers’ ability to respond to these needs. Referral forms can be emailed to BedfordFirstResponse@bedford.gov.uk.
NB- You do not require consent to share information with Childrens Social Care if doing so places the child or young person at risk of significant harm. Good practice however would be to discuss your concerns with the child/young person and with their parents/carers and seek their agreement to refer to social care unless you consider such a discussion would place the child at increased risk of harm
